I'd like to hear from someone who is using this program on an Intel/Leopard Macintosh. I have been reluctant to install it on my new Macs until hearing some success stories. My old Mac (which I'm still using with Crossword Express) is of a limited life expectancy.

It's amazing to look at these first few entries in the Crossword Express Guestbook thus far and see entries from Europe, North and South America, as well as down under from New Zealand and Australia. I wonder if there is another program so universally used... not only globally but also available for both Mac and Windows users.
As a crossword builder, I know we usually don't mind if people think we're Einsteins who create these puzzles 100% manually, but for many months now the fine print below every puzzle I've published says "Built with software from www.crauswords.com" This program deserves the publicity! I'd like to encourage other puzzle builders to do the same, or to otherwise support this product by recommending it to others likely to purchase CWE. Our support is a small price to pay for the excellent customer support always available for CWE users.

Crossword Express is a great program and I highly recommend it. Support is fabulous and fast. I've used it for years and have always been very pleased with both the support and the program.

Crossword Express is the ideal tool to create crosswords (of course!) but also all sorts of word games. I have been using this program for years and I like the way it lets you create any kind of database of words. Many thanks to John Stevens for this great tool... and for his customer relationship management around it!

I've been Computer teacher for eleven years now, and Crossword Express is easily one of the most useful and enjoyable pieces of software I use. With it, I can quickly create crosswords from students' Spelling Word lists. These puzzles have been a boon to my classes. I get the opportunity to share with students the magic of crosswords, while they have fun practicing spelling. Thank you for creating such a well-designed, well-supported, and altogether fantastic program. It works like a charm.

Thanks again for this wonderful piece of software. Everyone here loves the program. I've used a number of other crossword programs in the past, but this is the best so far. I've been using CWE for years with great fun and success with my 4th grade class. We do crosswords, Sudokus, GrandTours, and Kakuros on a weekly basis as part of our Choice Homework. I wanted to let you know I love the new version -- the help screens are much more readable, and the create option on the GrandTour is very helpful. Thanks for the constant improvements -- of all the great things about CWE, the best is the lifetime updates, along with all the great new features you keep adding.

I love using Crossword Express for my English and Spanish classes. However, I can't figure out how to make the title print. Also, I followed the directions of going to Print Options/Colour Selection/Pattern Cells and put it to white, but I don't get the "pleasing shadow box style". I just get the a square grid with the numbers, and now you can't tell at all where the words should go. Please tell me what I'm doing wrong.
Thank you!

To make the Title print...firstly, make sure that you have entered a title for your puzzle. This can be done before you make the puzzle using the "Puzzle Description" button. One of the input fields in the Puzzle Description Dialog is "Puzzle Title". If you forget this step, you can add it to an existing puzzle using the "Save As" button on the "Manual Construction" screen. To get it to print using the "Custom Print" function, simply add a "Puzzle Title" item to your print layout. You can control the size and location of this item, and so locate the puzzle title anywhere you like on your printout.
To get the "pleasing shadow box style"...make sure that you have really selected white as the colour for the pattern cells. There are many colours which can be set which "look" white to the eye, but are still not exactly white. To make sure that you have set the colour correctly, do it by using the colour selection palette in the "Color Picker" dialog. The cell at the extreme bottom right of the palette will give you the "Pure" white that you require.
Regards: John Stevens.

I have used the program for about ten years. It is an excellent resource. Paper crosswords can be generated easily, but it does so much more. Online crosswords are simple to add to web sites and flashcards can be produced for revision topics. The support for the program is first rate and the author has made tweaks to the program to enable me to export dictionaries more efficiently to Word.
I have no hesitation in recommending the program.

Hi John and hello to your thousands of fans.
Many years ago when software was distibuted on 5 1/4" floppy disks, I came across this program. I sent away to John for the Activation Key and have had a lot of fun with the program over the years. My Number is 116 so you can see how long ago that was.
What an incredibly powerful set of functions come to you in this package! And John hass amazed me again by including SUDUKO as part of the package. When I retire I will probably spend more time building dictionaries and creating puzzle books. I hope to incorporate them into some of my other creations at that time.
In the meantime I wish all those XPRESS users all the fun in the world. From Blake in the Frozen North of Canada - with 4 feet of rock hard snow on my lawn - SUNSHINE TO YOU ALL!

I have been using CWE for several years now. I began because I liked crosswords, but soon I realized that I had a very powerful tool and started to offer puzzles to newspapers, I have now several customers. Not only CWE makes crosswords at a lightning speed, but it has a complete set of auxiliary functions that are required for professional use, such as extensive manipulation of dictionaries, printing and export facilities, etc. It is unlikely that you may need a function that is not available, but if such is the case and what you ask for is of general interest, it is very probable that in the next version that function is included, i.e. the technical support goes far beyond helping you to use the software. In addition to crosswords of various types including bilingual ones you can also make many other sorts of puzzles: Sudoku, Kakuro, Word Search, etc. You can even make Anagrams.
It is amazing how such a functionality is packed into so small a package, which speaks of a very efficient software, cleverly written.

Being an all time crazy fan for word games (as a player and as a creator), I could not be more satisfied with this software. Crossword Express simplifies the making of all kind of word puzzles to the point I wish there were a million more words and I did not knew their meaning… Crossword Express is the best crossword software ever. Great job.

Just wanted to leave a message thanking you for CrosswordExpress. Its low cost, variety of puzzles, ease of use, and absolutely sterling customer support makes it five-star in my book, and I've been using it for years. If it isn't the perfect program, it's as close as they come.

My profession is making crosswords. Crossword Express is my perfect tool of trade. In the beginning the manual making of crosswords was a tedious and time-consuming process which often left me drained. But with Crossword Express, which does almost everything I could possibly want to do as a professional, I produce my crosswords in a twinkling, then sit back and enjoy life. This program is worth a 9.999-star rating.
